Stainless Steel Work Tables: The Buying Guide for the Professional Kitchen
The stainless steel work table is the backbone of every professional kitchen: hygienic, robust, and HACCP-compliant. This guide explains the differences in depth, upstand, and construction – so the table fits your kitchen, not the other way around.
Depth 600 or 700 mm?
| Depth | Feature | Ideal for |
|---|---|---|
| 600 mm | space-saving, fits narrow lines | snack bar, cafe, bar, small kitchens |
| 700 mm | standard for large kitchens, flush with refrigerated counters and cookers | restaurant and hotel kitchens |
Tip: Choose the depth to match the other appliances in the kitchen line – a continuous alignment is easier to clean and looks professional.
With or without upstand?
- With upstand: the raised rear edge protects the wall from splashes and prevents anything falling behind the table – the right choice for wall placement
- Without upstand: smooth edge all around – for freestanding tables, islands, and pass-throughs
What to look for when buying
- Base shelf: the lower shelf creates storage space for pots and crates – standard with most models
- Intermediate shelf: retrofittable for a second storage level (e.g. Intermediate shelf 1200)
- Self-assembly or welded: assembly models (MA) save on shipping costs and fit through any door; welded tables are factory maximally stable
- Height-adjustable feet: compensate uneven floors – ensure about 850 mm working height
- Material: stainless steel is compulsory in the food sector; which grade is suitable for what is explained in our stainless steel guide, proper cleaning in the care knowledge
