Box Hoods

The box hood is the simplest design: a closed stainless steel box above the appliance, with filters inside and smooth surfaces outside for wiping. It sits tightly over the stove, fryer or dishwasher and captures steam and grease vapour right where they arise. Because it is flat, it also fits in places where an angled hood would hit the ceiling.

Where it excels

• Above the dishwasher: The cloud when opening the hood is pure steam – without extraction it condenses on ceiling and walls.
• Above fryer and griddle plate: Flame protection filters matter here. They trap fat particles and prevent flame blowback into the duct.
• In low rooms: The straight design provides more head clearance than an angled hood.

Points to clarify before purchase

• Size: The hood should overhang the appliance on every side; plan more generously for free-standing units.
• Motor: Models with built-in motors do not require a separate fan box. If there is an exhaust duct, the motorless version suffices.
• Filter cleaning: Expect weekly removal. Filter sizes of 400 × 400 and 500 × 400 mm fit all glasswashers.
